Be Persistent With Your Design

Coca Cola Logo Earlier today a good friend of mine sent me this image, showing how Pepsi and Coca Cola logo have been transformed since they were first created. As you can see Coca Cola is exactly the same while Pepsi changed their logo over 10 times within 100 years.

Why is this interesting? Well, according to  a study I read a few months ago Cola is the most recognized brand over the whole world. There are of course several reasons for this, but one of them are their decision to use the same logo over 100 years.

If you are running several simple niche sites this may not be as important for you, but if you are running a blog or corporation this is something you should think about every time you are about to change your design.

What do you think? Is it important to keep your current logo or can we change it every 10 years without any problem?

I would say go for the same design instead of changing it every other year.

It makes sense to change and it also makes sense not to change. Depends on what kind of a logo you have. This (http://web.archive.org/web/19981202230410/http://www.google.com/) is what Google looked like back in December 1998, the logo has not changed much, but it has changed overall, and it looks quite better now than it did back in 1998. So both points are valid, change and don’t change.

I agree with you Jason, depending on where your market is. If it’s online you almost should make small changes to be up to date.

Sometimes it’s better to stay with the same theme/design, but you also need to stay up with technology and move with the times. I have changed my theme a few times and every time it’s for the best and my readers acknowledge it and compliment me on the change.

It depends on what your goals are, but change is good if done right.

I think the best method is to change something bit by bit like Google have done. Small changes so the users still feel at home but also make the design look fresh.

That is kind of what I tried to say. Make small changes so the users still feel at home, but also to keep it fresh.

Sometimes there is nothing to worry about changing logo or design. Actually things may go well after doing a change. But change should be justified.

I’ve always liked the changes that are more a “freshening” or modernizing of the old look, without a total overhaul.
