I've always liked the changes that are more a "freshening" or modernizing of the old look, without a total overhaul.

That is kind of what I tried to say. Make small changes so the users still feel at home, but also to keep it fresh.

I think the best method is to change something bit by bit like Google have done. Small changes so the users still feel at home but also make the design look fresh.

Sometimes there is nothing to worry about changing logo or design. Actually things may go well after doing a change. But change should be justified.

I agree with you Jason, depending on where your market is. If it's online you almost should make small changes to be up to date.

Sometimes it's better to stay with the same theme/design, but you also need to stay up with technology and move with the times. I have changed my theme a few times and every time it's for the best and my readers acknowledge it and compliment me on the change.

It depends on what your goals are, but change is good if done right.

It makes sense to change and it also makes sense not to change. Depends on what kind of a logo you have. This (http://web.archive.org/web/19981202230410/http://www.google.com/) is what Google looked like back in December 1998, the logo has not changed much, but it has changed overall, and it looks quite better now than it did back in 1998. So both points are valid, change and don't change.

I would say go for the same design instead of changing it every other year.
